The Santa Rosa de Lima School is a Primary and Pre-primary school and is located in the Rosales neighborhood, in El Palmar, 8 kms from Murcia. It is a neighborhood with low buildings and small houses. The cultural and socio-economic environment is low. This results in poor motivation to pursue higher education and difficulties for some students to bring the necessary material for school activities. The manual professions predominate. Most parents work in the field, especially immigrants, the rest are usually bricklayers, mechanics, or be unemployed. Mothers do not usually work outside the home. There are security problems due to the high marginality of the neighborhood.

The Ceip Santa Rosa de Lima has been witnessing over the years an evolution and a radical change in the personal, economic and racial characteristics of its students. Especially, it is the last years, which completely overturn the characteristics and needs of our school, due to the change in the profile of the families who attend school. Currently, our school population consists of about 180 students (aprox. 90%  are foreigners (mostly of Moroccan origin), the rest  are considered socially disadvantaged families and / or gypsy students. This circumstance means that a special educational intervention is necessary to acquire the vehicular language as soon as possible, in order to achieve the objectives established in the teaching. In this sense, changes in the methodology are being carried out towards greater inclusion in classrooms and project work.

They excel in foreign languages and computers. Our school has participated in two Comenius and one Erasmus programs. These programs have strengthened the links between teachers from different countries but mainly help friendship between students. Unprecedented Knowledge and experience is gained through contacts which cannot be acquired in any other way. Many of our students take part in programs to boost democracy. They participate in meetings of the parliament and the Municipality of our city. The inhabitants of the city, to a greater extent, are economically well off and have the potential to support children in their studies. After high school, most children either study at Greek universities or at universities in Europe. They find jobs in Greece, but many of them prefer to find jobs in countries in Europe where wages are better. Summer is a period of high economic activity, the city of Veria is a rich agricultural area and jobs are easy to find in summer. Participating in European programs has always been the focus of our school. Through their contact with other foreign students they become better people and better citizens, they become citizens of Europe and the world.

John Paul II Primary School is a state school with 235 students aged 7-12 at the moment. The school was founded as a primary school but it has undergone educational system transformations in the course of time; it served as a secondary education institution in 1999-2019 but was turned into a primary school again in 2017. Since the foundation of the School we have educated many generations of students living not only in vicinity of the School.

Apart from mainstream classes, we also have inclusive classes where healthy students learn together with the disabled ones. The staff of the school find it crucial to provide assistance to students with Sensory Processing Disorder and they are given individualized educational support by specialized teaching staff.

Since 2004 the School has belonged to the association called Rodzina SzkóÅ‚ im.Jana PawÅ‚a II which gathers educational institutions following values present in Pope John Paul II`s teachings. We believe that holistic development of students based on humane values represented by our Patron can be achieved thanks to making students familiar with the works of  Karol WojtyÅ‚a (i.e. John Paul II)  and the author`s figure himself, developing versatile students` interests -  intellectual, artistic, sports and recreational as well as touristic.Students have the opportunity to join the school choir, Tibi Papa, take part in competitions dedicated to the poetry of John Paul II organized by our teachers, join team sports clubs etc. The students participate in events dedicated to national holidays and are taught to follow traditions and remember Polish patriots, artists and writers and important historical events.

SzkoÅ‚a Podstawowa nr 15 has joined the European program for schools under the auspices of WHO Europe, European Comission and the European Council-we joined the network of schools promoting health and well-being of students, educators and administration. The students and staff learn how to live a healthy life and to create healthy environment  as well as encourage parents to get involved in the process.

Our staff  try to educate conscious and responsible future citizens of Poland and we stress the importance of ecology in contemporary world for the sake of  present and future generations. With this idea in mind the stuff encourages students to take active part in projects focused on environment and ecology. During the Gimnazjum era , our students participated in erasmus+ project entitled “Be Healthy, Be Natural, Be Smart”which concerned improving various aspects of health and stressed the importance of protecting the environment and using natural resources. Now our youngest pupils use their creativity to work about recycling and upcycling.

Our Mission

Our Vision

The main objective of our project is to make the pupils and the families through them aware of the importance of health and environment protection today. The Treaty of Amsterdam of 1997 determined sustainable development as one of the most important fundamental priorities for the European Union. The idea of improving life quality and environment protection appears among the four fundamental objectives of the EU politics. The development of environmental awareness and behaviour has to be started during childhood. This requires parents as well as teachers to change their perceptions. We have to make the children aware of the synthetic and natural chemicals in our surroundings, and their effects on life. During our project work the pupils will analyze the chemicals they use for doing the laundry, washing the dishes, cleaning, cosmetics, hygiene, and cookingbaking in their households. We will analyze their components and examine their effects on living organism, and try to find those natural chemicals that could substitute them. It’s very important for the pupils to be able to consider what they can protect their environment with and how to contribute to sustainability. We hope that the personal experience will induce the change of perception of the pupils, the parents as well as the participating teachers, which is essential to ensure sustainable development.
We wish to introduce the following indicators to the pupils and we will try to improve them:
• efficient usage of resources, keeping waste generation to a minimum
• limiting pollution to a level that does not harm the nature and human health
• protection of people’s health by sustaining safe, pleasant and clean environment
• ensuring availability of good quality food and water
Practicing environmental education includes changing the attitude, behaviour and life style as well. We are trying to contribute to this with our project. The practical experiences will act as catalysts during this process. The target group of the project is students from 12 to 16 years old and their families. We would like to involve different type of institutions (primary schools. secondary schools and associations active in
education fields) to address pupils in different ages We would like to prepare a tangible physical product as a summary of our 3 year project. We will do intellectual outputs, an instruction manual on why some chemical products are harmful, how to reduce their use or replace them with natural neutral or beneficial substances. It will be made up of 6 parts, each of them focusing on one of target areas we agreed on: cleaning, washing, hygiene, beauty, plant growing at home, and food without chemicals.
With the project we would like to increase the girls’ interests in natural sciences by approaching topics scientifically which they are familiar with in everyday life. The ration of the boys and girls is 1:3.
The question of environmental protection, environmental pollution and sustainability concerns the scientists, the leaders of the countries and every people all around the world. Everyone feels that urgent changes are required in this area. Nowadays, there are more and more social entrepreneurship among young people, the main purpose of which is to alleviate social, cultural and environmental problems. We would also like to introduce students to this form of entrepreneurship.
However, each country is following a different path, and the results achieved so far are different as well. They face different environmental effects, pollutions and problems, and possess different natural resources. The traditions are different as well which also affect and determine the directions of environmental protection. The project is an excellent opportunity for the students to examine the similarities and differences and how each country is progressing with these changes. What is the attitude of the people, what means are they trying to apply effectively in the area of health protection, environmental protection and sustainability. Therefore it is important to us that 6 countries, 6 partners with different culture joins our project and make it possible to have a wide comparison, and to learn from each other.
