2024.07.31. - 2024.08.10. International Draughts European Youth Championships, Jelgava, Latvia. Day 5:
Today was only a morning match. The competitors needed some rest, as they were mentally exhausted after the previous days' rounds.
After lunch we had the opportunity to visit the Jelgava Castle Museum, learn about the history of the ruling family and the castle. The castle is a multifunctional building. It houses the city's financial management and the university (Latvia University of Life Sciences and Technologies). We could see the rector's office, medieval remains found during the reconstruction of the castle, original costumes and the tombs of the royal family.
After dinner, we took a short walk along the riverbank, where we admired sand sculptures. They were a little weather-beaten as it rained every day. And 2 days before our arrival, a violent storm swept through Jelgava. The ruins of this are still being cleared in the parks. 2 days ago we had a hailstorm.
The competitors are coping well with the matches. They play good matches for themselves. So far, our most successful player is Noémi Balogh with 7 points and a 50% score.
