During the Erasmus+ Youth Exchange project Wellbeing Warriors in Kállósemjén, Hungary, Sevid, our turkish long-term volunteer, had the opportunity to lead a valuable session titled “Balancing Hormones & Health: What to Eat as a Teen.”
In her workshop, she explored the importance of adolescence as a critical period for establishing lifelong health habits, focusing on how nutrition influences physical development, cognitive performance, hormonal balance, and emotional well-being.
Key topics covered in her session included:
The five most essential nutrients for teenagers: iron, calcium, vitamin D, omega-3 fatty acids, and B vitamins.
A focus on foods that promote growth and hormonal stability, such as whole grains, lean proteins, fresh fruits and vegetables, healthy fats, and sufficient water intake.
The negative effects of ultra-processed foods and sugary drinks, especially regarding mood swings, concentration issues, and long-term health outcomes.
Throughout the session, Sevid encouraged participants to reflect on how small, everyday choices - like starting the day with a nutritious breakfast or drinking enough water - can have a major impact on overall well-being.
It was an inspiring and interactive experience, full of insightful questions and honest reflections. We are grateful to Erasmus+ and our association KDIE for making this learning opportunity possible!
