As part of the Erasmus+ Sport project (title: "A New Community Sport - Kinball," contract number: 2023-1-HU01-KA182-SPO-000113269), 11 of us are participating in intensive training at the Spanish Kin-ball Federation from October 16-25.

This morning, we set off again from Málaga to Córdoba. For a change, we took the train today. We got to experience Spain's high-speed trains—the maximum speed was 300 km/h, and our ears struggled with the speed. We're not used to this; back home, 80-90 km/h is considered fast on the Hungarian State Railways (MÁV).

So early in the morning, we prepared breakfast and then departed for Córdoba at 7:15 AM.

When we arrived, the train station and bus station didn't leave a strong impression on me. I was wondering what the city would offer us today. No uphill walks, no beautiful old town. After about a 30-minute walk through small, winding streets, we began our sightseeing with the Palacio de Viana. Not luxurious, but in its own way a very original place, like a true noble estate. Its gardens and walls covered with greenery were wonderful.

After that, we searched for the Roman Temple and then walked to the Plaza de la Corredera. In this area, traces of the 8th century were visible. We were already tired, and I thought that compared to the previous days, we had seen almost nothing when suddenly we reached the cathedral.

From the outside, it wasn't particularly impressive, but when we entered its courtyard, I was breathless from the grandeur of the place. We queued to buy tickets and then entered the building. We were awestruck, as we had never experienced anything like this before. The grandiose size of the mosque-cathedral and the harmonious blending of different cultures, architectural styles, and eras were astounding.

The building was immeasurable in size, and when we reached its center, amid the red-striped arches characteristic of the Moors, a Christian cathedral emerged.

Symbol of Córdoba: the Mosque-Cathedral

The Great Mosque of Córdoba is the most famous example of Arabic-style mosques in Europe. Discover this wonderful creation of what was once the center of the Islamic world!

Córdoba's Mosque-Cathedral (this is its official name) is an impressive monument to the two religions and cultures that shaped Andalusia: Islam and Christianity. The Renaissance church is situated directly in the middle of what was once the most important mosque of the Islamic kingdom.

Originally, a Roman temple stood on the site, which was later replaced by a Visigoth Christian church. But in 711, when the Moors conquered Andalusia, the Visigoth structure was divided into two parts, and both Muslims and Christians used it as a place of worship. After exploring the cathedral, we crossed the Roman Bridge.

This day also enriched all of us with wonderful experiences. Meanwhile, we once again walked 17,000 steps just to stay in shape.
