Project title: 21 days around Europe
2024.08.20.
Today 3 groups set off to discover Europe. We left Nyíregyháza for Vienna at 4:52 am.
One always tries to be prepared for every eventuality, but of course one never fully succeeds.
In the framework of the application, we had to plan and buy the 11-day tour (tickets, seats) using the Discover EU app. This didn't quite work, so there were some seats that we had to buy at the ticket office. With all the interrail passes and seat tickets in hand, finally electronic and printed, we thought we could now sit back. Then yesterday evening I went to the app for a final check to make sure everything was in order, on time departure, etc. A message appeared in the app last night saying that we needed to purchase other additional services for the train from Vienna to Venice. So it's not enough to buy a ticket and a seat ticket (which is not compulsory anyway), you also need a supplementary ticket for the Italian entry, which is 10 euros each. Oh well, we couldn't buy it online, but we'll have 1 hour in Vienna and we'll buy it or pay for it on the train, we thought. At the ticket office they told us to buy it before boarding the train.
Yes, but we only had 40 minutes left before the train left and I had more than 40 queue numbers ahead of me. The group boarded the train, I stood in line and 10 minutes before departure, the line was mine. The young ticket girls added tickets to the group one by one, of which only 10 could be bought and paid for at a time. I asked them to hurry up as our train was about to leave. After printing 4 tickets, the printer died, I was redirected to another clerk and after printing 10 tickets, I had to buy 8 more and wait for them to print. After a quick sprint at the last po+moment, I jumped on the train and we were off. So that's how smooth the day went. Then finally after a short 15 hour train ride we arrived in Venice. We checked into our accommodation and had dinner at the pizzeria opposite the hotel. The pizza was delicious and at least it was gluten free. Unfortunately one of our students had a cold, we hope he will be better tomorrow. It's almost midnight, After a quick walk it's time to go back to sleep, because tomorrow we have more challenges ahead of us.
